1- Selection process for Special Students

PPGGO opens half-yearly registrations for those interested in taking isolated courses, as special students. As a special student, the student will have the same conditions and rules to follow (with respect to the discipline for which he / she enrolled), as regular students.

The advantage of taking courses in this modality is that the prospective candidate for a regular student will be able to get closer to the postgraduate environment, its faculty and other students. This allows that, in addition to better understanding the functioning of the program, it can also interact with ongoing research projects and interests in group research, which will increase your chances in the selection process for regular students, as it will be able to present proposals more in line with the reality of the PPGGO.

Another very important aspect to be considered is that, in most cases, candidates confuse graduate education with specialization. Taking courses as a special student in graduate school will allow the student to understand the difference between one level of education and the other, the difference between the load of activities and the demands of time to be dedicated in graduate courses.

The PPGGO regulation allows the use of up to 02 (two) subjects taken successfully as a special student, for candidates who succeed in the selection process for regular students, in addition to scoring them in the selection process for regular students. These disciplines can also be used in other graduate programs, according to their rules / standards.

1.1 From the selection:

Public calls for the selection of special students will be open every six months. Candidates will be able to apply to compete in up to 02 (two) of the disciplines offered in the call.

The selection is made through curriculum analysis, which will score and rank the curriculum of interested candidates up to the limit of places offered.

This is a simplified selection, which involves only curriculum analysis.

1.2 What punctuates the curriculum analysis?

As it is a postgraduate program (stricto sensu), PPGGO recognizes academic production as “punctual activities” in the curriculum analysis: participation in congresses, seminars and academic events in general, in addition to publications made in annals of events, academic journals, books and book chapters.

Another very important item that is considered and scored, since the PPGGO is in the professional modality, is the professional experience proven by the candidate in the area.

The public call contains a table (annex) that details all possible activities and their respective scores.

2 - Selection process for regular students

The selection process for regular PPGGO students is open annually. The announcement is published in the middle of the second semester of the year, to select new students who will start their activities in the first semester of the following year.

This selection process consists of 03 (three) stages:

Stage 1 - Basic Skills Assessment

This assessment consists of an eliminatory written test of English Language Sufficiency, which can take place basically in two ways:

- own assessment by CIS - PPGGO Internal Selection Committee, which will directly apply an equal test to all candidates, which will be based on analysis and interpretation
of texts written in English, using objective or discursive questions, which they may be written in Portuguese or English. The cost of this evaluation will be contained in the application fee collected by the candidate.

- certificates from international assessors, such as IELTS - International English Language Testing System and TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language, as well as assessment certificates issued by language centers of public institutions of higher education. In these cases, the costs of this evaluation will be collected by the evaluators themselves.

The selection notice will provide which of these two forms will be adopted for that specific year.

Candidates from countries whose English is the official language must submit to the Portuguese Language Sufficiency Assessment.

Stage 2- Evaluation of Specific Competences

This eliminatory stage consists of an oral test, carried out by CIS - PPGGO Internal Selection Committee.

This evaluation will be based on the descriptive memorial and the pre-research project presented at the time of registration by the candidate, who will be argued by the evaluation panel, for an approximate time of 15 to 30 minutes.

This step seeks to verify the adherence of the research proposal presented by the candidate with regard to the line of research indicated by him, the area of concentration of the program, as well as thematic interests in research of the possible advisor indicated by the candidate, in addition to his academic, professional and social claims.

PPGGO is conducted in the strict sense, therefore, the candidate's availability to dedicate himself to teaching, research and complementary activities is important. This point is further detailed in the “Curricular Structure” topic available on this web site.

Stage 3 - Academic production in the interdisciplinary QUALIS / CAPES area and professional experience

In this third and final stage, which is qualifying, the CIS - Internal Selection Committee will assess the academic production and professional experience in the area, related and confirmed by the candidate.

This is a stage that does not involve the candidate's participation. The CIS - Internal Selection Committee will assign, from the verification of the supporting documents presented at the time of registration by the candidate, marks from 0.0 (zero) to 10.0 (ten), depending on the amount of the score verified by the candidate.

The candidate with the highest score verified and confirmed in the Curriculum Evaluation Form (attached to the notice), will be assigned a grade of 10.0 (ten) and the other candidates will have their grades proportionally relativized, calculated using the simple three rule.

Candidates will apply for the vacancy made available by an advisor and research line previously indicated at the time of registration. The public notice will provide for quota reserves for blacks, browns and indigenous and physically disabled persons in accordance with the legislation in force, in addition to the relocation of candidates between indicated and available advisors, and between the lines of research, as well as the transformation of vacancies destined to the wide competition for candidates for quota vacancies and vice versa, aiming at a better filling / utilization of the vacancies offered.

The candidate's final grade will be obtained by the simple arithmetic average of the grades obtained by him in the three stages.
